Discussion Board

There is no “right or wrong” answer here; however, it is imperative that you substantiate your commentary. For this assignment, you are to answer the following questions with a minimum of 200 words.

1.In some states, such as in Colorado, state governments have legalized the possession and use of marijuana for its citizens. However, a federal law, known as The Controlled Substances Act of 1970, makes the possession and use of marijuana illegal under federal law.

If Article VI of the United States Constitution stipulates that federal law takes precedence over state laws (known as the Supremacy Clause), then how is it that some states can make marijuana legal?

The question posed to you this week is as follows: 1. Are states that legalize marijuana in violation of the Supremacy Clause contained in Article VI of the United States Constitution? Why or why not

2.Currently, in the private sector, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a woman typically makes 87 percent of the wage a man makes in a similar position with similar responsibilities. There are some who state that women are more expensive to employ, primarily due to women being the bearer of children and the extended time off typically required after the birth of a child. However, there are others who state that this constitutes a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, that women should be paid the same as men with similar positions and similar responsibilities. Even with the Equal Pay Act of 1963, signed into law by then-President John Kennedy, we still see these disparities in pay between the genders. Hence, the question I have for you is:

2.What steps can we take to ensure equal pay between genders for employment positions with similar responsibilities and similar duties?
